Mobie eSmart was developed between 2013 and 2015 in collaboration with over 100 Finnish schools and educational institutions, 2,500 teachers and 40,000 students, taking advantage of agile methodologies and the latest standards. The development was not hampered by legacy code dating from a time before modern touch-screen mobile devices. Instead, the system was developed from a clean slate to work on all devices, regardless of their operating system or screen size.
Mobie eSmart can be integrated with the organisation’s own user management systems (for example AD or Azure AD) or other in-house systems. eSmart also contains an xAPI interface (also known as Tin Can API) that allows course materials to be imported from external systems that support the API (such as Articulate, iSpring and Adobe Captivate) and the learning data (Big Learning Data) to be collated into the eSmart learning record store (LRS) for subsequent analysis.
